Richard Kruse

Richard E. Kruse, age 56, of Omaha, Neb., passed away Sept. 16, 2009, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.

He had worked for Campbell Soup in Napoleon and transferred to Campbell Soup in Omaha, Neb., in 1997. After that plant closed, he worked for Sara Lee Bakery and then as a maintenance supervisor for Kellogg’s.

Richard was born in Defiance, Ohio on Feb. 21, 1953, the son of Carl and Ruth (Taylor) Kruse. On Oct. 25, 1980 he married Diane Storrer, and she survives.

He was a member of St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church in Omaha, and St. Peter Catholic Church in Archbold.

He was a Navy Veteran of the Viet Nam War. He was a 1971 graduate of Defiance High School, a 1984 graduate of Northwest State Community College with an associate degree in electrical engineering, and a 2005 graduate of Bellevue University with a BS in business.

Surviving besides his wife, Diane, is a daughter, Audra Kruse of Omaha, Neb.; a son, David Kruse of Defiance; a stepson, Layne Thrasher of Key West, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Laura (Mike) Kennedy of Archbold; step-grandchildren Kobe and Alexa Kennedy; brothers Carl (Lavonna) Kruse (who raised Richard) of Defiance, Bob (Elda) Kruse of Pomona, Mo., George (Margene) Kruse of Defiance, Melvin Kruse of Hillsboro, Paul (Cookie) Kruse of Cecil; and a sister, Clara (Herbert) Fessel of Defiance.

A funeral mass will be Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church with burial to follow at the St. Peter Cemetery, where military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 311.

Friends may call at St. Peter Catholic Church on Monday, Sept. 21 from 3-8 pm, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 P.M.
