Rev. William Zoltner




Rev. William Zoltner, 91, formerly of Gahanna, died at Hospice House in Ashland, Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, 2007 following a short illness.

He was a Lutheran minister for 65 years, serving congregations in Ohio and Indiana.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1916 in Huron, a son of Martin and Aletha (Shepherd) Zoltner. He graduated from Capital University in 1938 and Trinity Lutheran Seminary in 1942 and was ordained in Zion Lutheran Church in Huron on June 28, 1942.

On June 28, 1950, he married Florence Fraas of Archbold, who survives him.

From 1951 to 1964, he was pastor of two rural congregations in Upper Sandusky, Bethany Lutheran and North Salem Lutheran. His ministries also included churches in Eaton; Richmond Ind.; Biloxi, Miss.; Metamora; and Gahanna.

After his retirement in 1978 from Peace Lutheran Church, he was the visitation pastor for more than 20 years at Clinton Heights Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbus. In addition to his long career in ministry, he was also an avid gardener.

Other survivors include his brother, Calvin (Mary Ada) Braun of Bella Vista, Ark.; a sister-inlaw, Gertrude Fraas of Ashland; three nephews, Robert Fraas of Richmond, Ky., John Fraas of Ashland, and David Zoltner of Denton, Texas; two nieces, Bonny Ambos of Sandusky, and Mary Beth Blanks of Ijamsville, Md.

Memorial services will be held today, Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007 at 2 p.m. in Belmont Tower at Brethren Care Village in Ashland with Pastor Robert Pflueger officiating. Memorial services will also be held on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Clinton Heights Evangelical Lutheran Church, 15 Clinton Heights Avenue in Columbus with the Rev. Ralph Wolfe officiating.

Rev. Zoltner donated his body to the Department of Anatomy School of Medicine at Ohio State University. A private family interment will be at Archbold Cemetery at a later date.

The family suggests that memorial contributions in his memory be made to Trinity Lutheran Seminary, 2199 E. Main Street, Columbus, OH 43209.

Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home of Ashland assisted the family with the arrangements.
