Radiothon Tops $1 Million

Who would have believed 46 years ago, that a one-day-a-year fundraiser broadcast over a local radio station would collect $1 million over its history.

That’s exactly what happened with the Fulton County Heart Radiothon, which surpassed the milestone on Thursday, Feb. 13.

Just as exciting, the 2020 Radiothon collected more than $27,000, well in excess of the $24,000 goal.

Originally founded to raise money to buy heart-related equipment for Fulton County rescue squads, members of the Radiothon Board of Directors have expanded their giving by including education programs, cholesterol screening, and the purchase, distribution, and maintenance of AEDs, automatic external defibrillators. AEDs have literally saved lives.

Since 1974, the Radiothon Board has stuck by two pledges.

1. All funds raised are spent within Fulton County. None of the money disappears into some national or international organization.

2. None of the people connected with the Radiothon board take any money for their work. It truly is an all-volunteer effort.

Many of those who started the Fulton County Heart Radiothon are gone now, but we owe them a great deal of gratitude for starting a life-saving tradition right here in Fulton County.
