Mike Pressler, principal of the Archbold Middle School, will retire from his job effective Jan. 31, 2010.
David Deskins, district superintendent, said Pressler turned in his resignation, Friday, Nov. 20. The board accepted it at a special meeting, Monday, Nov. 23.
Pressler joined the Archbold Area School District Aug. 1, 1999, replacing his older brother, Larry, as middle school principal.
A 1971 Montpelier High School graduate, he returned to that district in 1988, where he was an elementary school principal, and later, principal of the middle school.
Overall, he has 35 years of service to education in Ohio.
Deskins said a decision to retire near the middle of the school year is not typical, but not unheard of.
“For some, their anniversary date falls at the midyear break,” Deskins said.
At this point, the school board does not have a defi- nite plan to find a replacement.
“The board will be exploring a number of options, whether to fill the position immediately, or consider an interim principal.
“The board has asked me to explore in that regard,” Deskins said.
“The board has not set a timeline, but they will view this with some degree of urgency.
“They want the transition to be as smooth as possible,” he said.–David Pugh
