Preparations Underway For Parade Of Lights, Lite The Nite Run

The annual Archbold Parade of Lights had 17 official entries as of midday yesterday, Tuesday, said Amy Krueger, executive director of the Archbold Area Chamber of Commerce.

That’s not unusual with just over a week to go until the Friday-after-Thanksgiving event, which is Nov. 25 beginning at 6:30 pm.

Normally, there are 40 to 50 entries for floats and other units in the parade.

Typically, entries register late, and sometimes floats arrive at the parade assembly area in the ConAgra Foods parking lot without registering at all.

Among the new entries are the Galbraith Clan, a family that will sing both during the parade and the pre-parade activities.

Clancy’s Cabinets will present Santa’s Workshop on its parade entry, she said.

Another new entry is Chuck Murillo, who will bring his DeLorean sports car, which is decorated to resemble the car used in the “Back To The Future” movie franchise.

The Fulton County Historical Society will be in the parade as well, with a float promoting its new museum building.

Also among the entries are units from Sauder Woodworking and Rupp Furniture. Krueger said they are the only two businesses who have been in the parade each of the past 16 years.

Last year, it rained during the parade, cutting participation to 36 entries.

“This year, it’s not going to rain. I’ve already put in my order,” Krueger said.

Preparations

Krueger said she met with Thom Ross, interim police chief, and Leo Wixom, interim assistant chief, to discuss the parade route, which has not changed from last year.

As part of the parade and pre-parade fun, there will be the annual Lite The Nite 5K Run. Proceeds from the run support the annual Festival of Lights displays in Ruihley Park.

Krueger said police will close streets in the village at 5:30 pm. The streets will remain closed until the parade is over.

The parade route starts at the ConAgra parking lot, proceeds east down Stryker Street to North Defiance Street, turns north and makes its way through downtown, turns west on Walnut Street, then turns south on LaChoy Drive, back to the ConAgra parking lot.

A list of streets that will close and other information is on the chamber website, www.archboldchamber.com.

Pre-Parade

Pre-parade fun beings at 4 pm in the downtown district.

Included in those activities are performances by the high school show choir, The Company.

Santa Claus will also take photos with children from 4- 5:30 pm.
