Praise For Blue Streaks, Indians

Basketball teams from Archbold and Wauseon went to Columbus to play in the state tournament last week. While neither came home with a championship, the mere fact that they were there deserves praise.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association, which regulates sports in Ohio, says that there are 799 high school basketball teams for 2016-17. Of them, only 16 teams– four from each of the four divisions– earn the trip to the state tournament.

Of course it is sad that after an entire season of hard work only four teams– one from each division– end the season with a “W.”

But the Blue Streaks and the Indians bear no shame. There are about 200 teams in each OHSAA division. Archbold was among the top four in Division III. Wauseon made it to the final two in Div. II.

Each team fought its way through sectional, district and regional tournaments to reach hallowed ground– the hardwood of the Schottenstein Center.

Each team brings home honor to its school and community. Each deserves praise for what it achieved. Each team deserves its mark in the record books.
