Firefighters and a hazardous chemical technician from Henry County responded to a red substance leaking from a package at the Ridgeville Post Office, Saturday, May 19.
David Hancock, Ridgeville Fire Department assistant chief, said firefighters were called to the post office about noon after the suspicious red substance was discovered in the mailroom.
A hazardous materials technician from the Napoleon Fire Department responded.
The Ridgeville Fire Department also responded.
The technician and one RFD member donned protective suits, then went into the post office and collected samples of the material.
Hancock said tests show the material was not hazardous.
While the spilled material was not hazardous, Hancock said the event provided everyone involved with a good training exercise.
“All (hazardous materials) procedures were followed,” he said.
