Police, Sheriff Receive Reports Of ID Theft

Archbold Police and Fulton County Sheriff departments have received reports of possible identity thefts.

Tracey Zuver, Fulton County Sheriff Department sergeant, said a woman reported on Tuesday, April 15 that she had received a notice of congratulations about the birth of a baby girl at St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima.

The problem, Zuver said, was the woman had not had a baby in Lima.

The woman told Fulton County Sheriff deputies that she had been evicted from a residence in Pettisville about a year ago. While that was going on, her Medicaid card was missing.

She fears that someone else is using the missing card.

Zuver said deputies are investigating whether it is a misuse of an identity, or a paperwork mix-up.

Archbold Police conducted an investigation after Jeff Theobald, Archbold, reported on Friday, April 18, that he discovered two fraudulent charges on his credit card statement.

Theobald told officers the charges were for $4.95 and $49.90, from a company in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Thom Ross, Archbold Police assistant chief, said the company requested that Theobald obtain a police report on the incident.
