Police Recover Property Stolen From Fairlawn

Archbold police have recovered property stolen from the Fairlawn Haven Retirement Campus, said Thom Ross, Archbold police chief.

Ross said a suspect has been identified, but no charges have been filed as of yet.

“We’re looking into it,” he said.

Thefts

There were three reports recently. One occurred between 2 pm, Saturday, Jan. 28, and 5:30 am, Sunday, Jan. 29.

Taken from the campus community center (not the Wyse Commons building, as originally reported) were a television, digital video disc (DVD) player, computer monitor, video game console, and other items, valued at about $330.

A second theft, also from the community center, occurred sometime between 6:45-7:40 pm, Sunday, Feb. 5. Someone attempted to steal a scanner tablet, but a cable securing the device to the wall prevented the theft. The thief got away with the power cord.

Ross said a majority of the property has been recovered. The remaining pieces were pawned.

“We know where they are,” Ross said.

The crime was solved by “good police work,” he said.

An individual thought he or she recognized a suspect, and police put the case together from there.

Other Cases

A third theft case was reported to police on Tuesday, Feb. 7, involving the theft of medication from Fairlawn.

The theft is believed to have occurred the day of the report, between 3:25-4 pm.

Ross said the case will be turned over to the Multi- Area Narcotics Task Force, commonly known as the MAN Unit.

The MAN Unit, a cooperative venture between several county sheriff and police departments, including Fulton County and Archbold, specializes in drug investigations.

Donna Konst, Fairlawn executive director, reported a possible scam through email targeting Fairlawn.

Konst told officers, Fairlawn officials had received several emails requesting money, starting on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

“We’re working on that one,” Ross said.
