Police Arrest Two On DUI Charges

Archbold police reports state two men were arrested recently on DUI charges.

In the first case, Jerry E. Stevens, 59, Archbold, was charged with DUI and disorderly conduct following a Saturday, Sept. 16 incident.

Police were notified of a possible drunk driver about 12:11 am. The report states that driver struck a pole on West Holland Street.

The reports said a car, driving west on West Holland Street, attempted to make a right turn, to go north in an alley about 180 feet west of Ditto Street. In doing so, the auto struck a utility pole located on the northwest corner of the intersection.

The report called into police said the suspected vehicle was parked in the driveup lane of the F&M Bank main branch automatic teller machine.

The officer reported speaking with the driver of the vehicle. That driver, identified as Stevens, was placed under arrest.

He was transported to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, where, as of Monday, he was being held on a $25,000 bond, 10% allowed.

The second case resulted in the arrest of Steven Robert Hicks, 29, Fayette.

The report states an officer observed a car back out of a driveway in the 600 block of North Defiance Street. As the vehicle proceeded north, it went left of the centerline as it approached the officer’s patrol car.

The officer wrote, “vehicle was stopped in the 700 block of North Defiance Street, and during contact investigation, defendant (identified as Hicks) was asked to step out of the vehicle for further investigative testing for impaired driver.

“After roadside tests were conducted, it was determined the defendant was operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and was placed under arrest.”

Hicks was charged with DUI, failure to drive in marked lanes, having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in his vehicle, and no seatbelt.

He was taken to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. He has since been released.
