Archbold Village Council named Dexter Krueger assistant engineer during its Monday night, Jan. 5, meeting.
Bob Seaman, village engineer, told members of council during the meeting he wanted Krueger made assistant engineer so Krueger could act in Seaman’s place when he’s unavailable.
Seaman said Krueger holds a professional engineer license, and last October, passed the first test for a surveyor license, which allows him to do some survey work.
Krueger has been handling some of the village engineering department paperwork to become familiar with it, said Dennis Howell, village administrator.
“He’s a very mature young man,” Howell said.
In connection with naming Krueger assistant village engineer, council granted him a residency wavier. Krueger resides in Elmira.
This is the second time in less than a month council has granted a residency waiver to a new assistant.
Council approved granting a waiver to Jake Wyse, who was named assistant street department superintendent, Monday, Dec. 15. Wyse lives in Ridgeville Corners.
Department heads and assistants are required to live within the village limits unless a residency waiver is granted.
The waiver may be granted based on the recommendation of the village administrator and the department head. Waivers are subject to council approval.
Howell said Krueger, “does a fine job for the engineering department. We want to keep him.”
Prior to the residency waiver approved for Wyse, village offi- cials said only one or two such waivers had been approved in the last 10 to 12 years.
In response to questions from council members, Seaman said there has never been an assistant engineer before, but last fall, the position was built into the village budget.
Howell said Krueger is in line for a pay hike as assistant engineer, but the amount has not been determined.
