PHS Volleyball Ups BBC Record To 6-1 With Wins Over Stryker, Hilltop

The Pettisville volleyball team avenged a Sept. 14 Buckeye Border Conference loss at Stryker with a 25-16, 25-14, 24-26, 25-22 victory in the Bird Cage, Thursday, Sept. 30.

Combined with a Tuesday, Sept. 28 victory over Hilltop, the Birds remain tied with Edon for the lead in the BBC. Both are 6-1.

PHS opened the week, Monday, Sept. 27 with a three-game non-league loss to Evergreen.

The Birds, ranked 14th in Division IV by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association, are 15-2 on the season.

Katie Yoder led the Blackbird attack with 18 of the team’s 50 kills. Stephanie Yoder had 12 and Natalie Hubby had 10.

S. Yoder and Hubby each had three solo blocks.

Lauren Frey served four of the team’s 17 aces, while Kylee Garcia served three.

Laura Rupp was 51/51 in setting, while Tessa Yoder was 34/34.

As a team, PHS was 88/95 in serving, 48/59 in serve reception, 95/95 in setting, and 98/115 in attacks.

The PHS junior varsity won 22-25, 27-25, 25-18.

Hubby had 11 of the Birds’ 39 kills. K. Yoder had nine and S. Yoder, six.

S. Yoder and Hubby each had two solo blocks.

Rupp served five of the team’s 14 aces. K. Yoder and Garcia each served three.

Rupp was 36/37 in setting; T. Yoder was 23/24.

As a team, PHS was 78/87 in serving, 44/56 in serve reception, 73/75 in setting, and 99/113 in attacks.

The PHS JV upped its record to 6-0 in the BBC with a 25-19, 25-16 victory.

The D-III Vikings upped their record to 13-2 with a three-game victory in the Bird Cage.

S. Yoder had 12 of Pettisville’s 33 kills and the team’s two solo blocks. Hubby had seven kills.

K. Yoder, S. Yoder, Stacey King, Garcia, Hubby, and Frey each served an ace. The Birds were 43/55 in serving for 78%.

Rupp was 47/48 in setting. T. Yoder was 31/31.

Evergreen won the JV game 23-25, 25-21, 25-21.
