The Pettisville volleyball team traveled to Columbus Grove for a season-opening tri-match with Patrick Henry, Saturday, Aug. 25.
The Bulldogs defeated the Birds in three games, 16-25, 25-17, 25-14. The Patriots beat PHS in two, 25-21, 25-13.

Jordyn Pursel and Dana Fricke each served three aces, while Emily Hubby served one.
Fricke and Ashlynn Waidelich each had seven kills; Pursel had four. Devon Friend and Emily Eicher each had one.
Hubby was 35-35 in setting, while Claire Fry was 17- 17. Hubby had a solo block.
As a team, PHS was 42-50 in serving, 35-47 in serve reception, 56-56 in setting, and 57-76 in attacks.

Fricke led the PHS attack with five kills, while Hubby had three, Carley Hoffmire had two, and Waidelich and Eicher each had one.
Pursel served two aces. Fry, Hubby, Waidelich, and Fricke each served one.
Fry was 11-11 in setting. Fricke had a solo block.
“The first game of the set versus Columbus Grove was the best we have played early in this season,” said John Horning, PHS head coach.
“The girls played very confi dently and really had control of the tempo as we were aggressive at the net. It was a great start to the season.
“As is typical of early season play, we lost some of that confidence and aggressiveness as our opponents stepped up and we didn’t get back into a good rhythm defensively.”
