The Pettisville volleyball team hosted Wauseon, Monday, Aug. 27, and defeated the Indians in four games, 25-13, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23 for its first victory of the season.
The Birds traveled to Ayersville, Thursday, Aug. 30. The Pilots won in three games, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20.

The Birds had 32 kills and 12 aces in their four-game victory over the rival Indians.
Emily Hubby had eight kills and two aces; Dana Fricke had seven kills, one ace, and four solo blocks; Jordyn Pursel had six kills and three aces, Emily Eicher had five kills and one ace, and Ashlynn Waidelich had three kills, three aces, and one solo block.
Devon Friend, Carley Hoffmire, and Emily Kauffman each had a kill, while Claire Fry served two aces.
Hubby was 42-43 in setting, while Fry was 35-35.
PHS was 78-98 in serving, 59-69 in serve reception, 98- 101 in setting, and 89-117 in attacks.
“It was good to get that first win,” said John Horning, PHS head coach. “We had too many missed serves, though.”

“Ayersville has a nice team, and, as expected, had a great defensive-minded attitude,” said Horning.
“I thought our girls played hard. We were just not as consistent as we needed to be.
“We need to control the tempo and do a better job with our fundamentals and communication on the court.”
E. Hubby and Pursel led the attack with six kills each. Waidelich and Stephanie Hubby each had four.
E. Hubby served three aces; Waidelich served two and Pursel, one. E. Hubby was 33-34 in setting.
Pettisville dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
