PHS Spikers Drop Two

The Pettisville volleyball team dropped to 6-9 with two losses and only one victory last week.

The Blackbirds lost to Evergreen 14-25, 23-25, 11-25, Monday, Sept. 24. The Vikings are ranked 16th in Division III by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association.

PHS came back and defeated Hilltop 25-20, 25-18, 25-20 in a Buckeye Border Conference matchup, Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Traveling to Stryker, Thursday, Sept. 27, the Birds dropped to 4-2 in the BBC with a 20-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 11-15 loss.

The Birds were 58/66 in serve reception and 45/50 in serving. Chelsea Schmucker served three aces; Haley Nofziger and Karina Rohrer-Meck each served two.

Katie Weber had four kills; Schmucker, Nofziger, and Jodi Spotts each had two, and Jessica Henrie had one. As a team the Birds were 39/54 in attacks.

Henrie had three solo blocks; Spotts had two.

The PHS junior varsity lost in two games; the freshmen won in three.

PHS Def. Hilltop 25-20, 25-18, 25-20

Still experiencing problems with serving and serve reception, PHS came home with a close victory.

The Birds were 66/74 in serving and 30/37 in serve reception. Rohrer-Meck was 36/36 in setting. Weber had seven kills; Nofziger had five and two solo blocks.

The JV won 25-12, 25-14.

Stryker Def. PHS 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 21-25, 15-11

The first time the two teams played, on Sept. 6, the Birds were victors in the close 25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23 match.

This time, after losing the first two games the Birds came back to win the next two and force a deciding fifth game, Pettisville’s first this season. The Panthers avenged the earlierseason loss with a 15-11 win.

Pettisville was 94/98 in serving and 65/75 in serve reception. Spotts was 22/24 in serving and had six kills, Schmucker was 19/19 in serving, Rohrer-Meck was 18/19 in serving and 95/100 in setting; Weber was 12/12 in serving and 10 kills; Nofziger was 15/15 in serving and had nine kills and four solo blocks.

The JV lost 25-21, 14-25, 20- 25.
