PHS Softball Splits Week

The Pettisville softball team split a pair of contests last week to run its record to 2-3, 0-1 in the Buckeye Border Conference.

The Birds opened the week with a 10-5 BBC loss at Edon, Monday, April 8.

PHS hosted Swanton at Wauseon, Tuesday, April 9, and scored eight runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Bulldogs 12-4.

Pettisville led 2-0 after one inning, but Swanton scored three runs in the third for a 3-2 lead.

The Birds took the lead back at 4-3 with two runs in the fifth, then exploded for eight in the sixth. Swanton scored once in the seventh for the 12-4 final.

Delaney Nofziger pitched a complete game. In seven innings she allowed four runs on eight hits, struck out 11, and walked four.

At the plate for PHS, Amber Klopfenstein hit a single and a double. Nofziger, Emily Hubby, and Kaija Blosser each hit a double, while Stephanie Hubby, Kenzie Riegsecker, and Olivia Wright each hit a single.

Edon 10, PHS 5

The Blue Bombers led 3-0 after two, but the Birds came back and scored four runs in the third for a 4-3 lead. They extended it to 5-3 with a run in the top of the fourth, but Edon scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead back at 9-5.

The Bombers scored once more in the sixth for the 10-5 final.

Nofziger was the losing pitcher. In six innings she allowed 10 runs on 13 hits, struck out three, and walked none.

Nofziger, S. Hubby, E. Hubby, and Riegsecker each hit a double and a single.
