PHS Softball Drops Three




The Pettisville softball team played three of five scheduled games last week, and lost all three.

The Birds opened their season at Wauseon, Tuesday, April 1 and came home with an 8-3 loss.

PHS hosted Ayersville, Thursday, April 3. Tied at 1 after seven, the game went into extra innings. After the Pilots scored a run in the top of the tenth the Birds couldn’t reciprocate and AHS went home with a 2-1 win.

Pettisville traveled to Fairview, Saturday, April 5, and went scoreless in a 7-0 loss.

Games with Miller City and Montpelier were cancelled.

The Birds are 0-3 on the season.

Wauseon 8, PHS 3

Wauseon scored at least one run in every inning but the fifth. The Indians led 2-0 after the first inning, scored single runs in the second and third, and two in the fourth for a 6-0 lead. WHS extended the lead to 8-0 with two runs in the sixth.

PHS got on the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the seventh for the 8-3 loss.

The Indians scored eight runs on nine hits. The Birds scored three runs on two hits with three errors.

Jordan Riegsecker was the losing pitcher.

PHS top hitters: Alexa Short, 1-3, double, run batted in; Karina Rohrer-Meck, 1-3.

WHS top hitters: Megan Dennis, 1-1, home run, 2 walks; Paige Stiriz, 2-3, walk.

Ayersville 2, PHS 1

The Pilots took a 1-0 lead with a run in the third. The Birds tied the score with a run in the fifth. The Pilots scored the winning run in the tenth.

Ayersville scored two runs on 12 hits. The Birds scored one run on six hits and had three errors.

Lauren Mengerink was the winning pitcher. Riegsecker was the losing pitcher.

PHS top hitters: Katie Weber, 2-4, home run, RBI; Short, 2-4, two stolen bases.

AHS top hitters: Danielle Engel, 2-3, stolen base; Ashley Frunden, 2-5, triple.

Fairview 7, PHS 0

Fairview scored four runs in the third and three in the fifth for the 7-0 victory.

The Apaches had eight hits and two errors. PHS had three hits and four errors.

N. McCoy was the winning pitcher. Drew Lantz was the losing pitcher.

PHS top hitters: Erica King, 1-3, double; Weber, 1-3, double; Ashley Eicher, 1-2.

FHS top hitters: McCoy, 2-4, double; R. Nerad, 2-3.
