The Pettisville golf team has to rebuild this year, after five seniors took the program to new heights the past two years.
The Birds won the Buckeye Border Conference title for the second straight year, and finished fourth at the state tournament. Overall, the team finished 154-23.
Mike Zimmerman, head coach, has no returning letterwinners this season.
Lost to graduation were Max Leppelmeier, who finished as the state runner-up and was the Northwest District Player of the Year; Tommy McWatters, BBC Player of the Year, and a sectional and district medalist; Caleb Nafziger, who was named All-District honorable mention; Levi Myers, Jake King, and Josh Horning.
“We are young and inexperienced,” said Zimmerman. “We will be looking to improve as the year moves on.”
He said promising newcomers are Sam Myers, a junior, and Caden Bishop, a freshman.
The Birds finished last in the Toledo Central Catholic Invitational tournament, Thursday, Aug. 5, at Bowling Green.
Anthony Wayne won the team title with a score of 293. Toledo St. John’s was second with 308, and Toledo St. Francis was third with 314.

Myers was low man for PHS with 104. Blayn Meck shot a 117; Bishop, 120; Tobin King, 123; Ty Nofziger, 159; and Ben Boger, 138.
