PHS Golf Falls To Stryker

The Pettisville golf team lost its third straight Buckeye Border Conference match to perennial league powerhouse Stryker, 165- 240, Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Wauseon.

Stryker’s Troy Saunders and Taylor Brown led all golfers with a pair of 39s. Hunter Clingaman added a 42 and Jared DeGroff, a 45.

Tyler Herschberger led the Blackbirds with a 49. No other Pettisville golfer broke 60.

“Another 70-plus stroke loss is always hard to take,” said Ed Bracken, veteran Pettisville coach, “but you can’t take anything away from Stryker. They’ve got a good team, again. It’s a veteran team and it showed.

“The hardest part about the loss is we had been improving and our practice rounds had been better than this score shows. We took a step back today.

“I’ve been playing golf and coaching long enough to know that is the game. Two steps forward and one step back.

“But we’re still moving forward. The kids are putting the effort into it, and that is all I can ask.

“No matter the scores I won’t quit on them if they don’t quit on themselves. We’ll turn this corner yet and win some matches.”
