PHS Girls, Wauseon Boys Win Fulton County Invitational

Pettisville locked up the girls title while Wauseon won the boys championship at the first annual Fulton County Cross Country Invitational, Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Wauseon.

Girls

Pettisville’s first five finishers all placed in the top 12, giving the Birds the team title with 30 points.

Archbold was second with 48, followed by Wauseon 85, Delta 94, and Evergreen 97.

Pettisville’s Elizabeth Sauder won the individual title, finishing in 20 minutes, 42 seconds.

Brittney Ramirez was the first Blue Streak into the chute, placing fourth in 21:22.

“We ran another incredible team race,” said Tom Wagner, PHS head coach.

“Our girls went 1-2-6-9-12. When you do that, you’re going to win quite a few races.

“It was a very hot afternoon. Nichole Foor was leading most of the way. However, she does not do well in intense heat. Elizabeth Sauder came up and got her toward the end of the race.

“Kate Stuber and Kelly Miller ran a very solid race, as did Sarah Foor.”

Boys

Wauseon’s first four runners finished in the top seven, and the Indians won the boys race with 36 points.

Pettisville’s top five runners finished in the top 14 and totaled 46 points.

Delta was third with 57; Archbold had 84; and Evergreen finished with 125.

Max Leppelmeier was the first PHS runner across the finish line, placing fourth in 17:45.

Brendon Johns was the first Blue Streak to finish, placing eighth in 19:25.

Wauseon’s Kyle Vernot won in 17:01.

“Our boys ran a great race, and came up ten points short of beating Wauseon,” said Wagner.

“We went 4-6-9-13-14. Max Leppelmeier and Logan Rufenacht were leading the charge for the Blackbirds. Calvin Nofziger had a very nice race, as well.”
