Frey, Holland Win Boys Titles

The Pettisville girls team defended its championship and the boys team finished fourth at the Buckeye Border Conference track meet, Saturday, May 15, at West Unity.

The girls won decisively, winning 10 of the 17 events, and scoring 192 points. Edon was second with 124; North Central earned 68; Hilltop, 53; Stryker, 52; Fayette 32.

Hilltop won the boys meet with 157.5 points. Edon was second with 103; Stryker, 78; Pettisvile, 71.5; North Central, 54; Fayette 53.

Girls

Samantha Shinhearl set a meet record and a school record in the 1600-meter run with a time of five minutes, 21.3 seconds. She also won the 800.

Stephanie Yoder won the pole vault for the third straight year, setting meet and school records with a vault of 10 feet.

Katie Yoder won two events, the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.

Pettisville’s 4×800-meter relay team (Rachel Beck, Tanner Hostetler, Tessa Yoder, Shinhearl) defended its league championship and also set a meet record of 10:26.09.

Other Blackbird BBC champions: Kayla York, high jump; Brady Avina, who won the 400 for the third straight year; the 4×200 (Brooke Betz, Amber Loar, Devon Friend, Chelsea Schmucker); and the 4×400 (Avina, Beck, Emily Eicher, Hostetler), which defended its title.

Shot put: 1. Siebernaler (E), 31- 10; 2. Garcia, 31-6; 4. Lemley 28-10.

Long jump: 1. Ackerman (NC), 16-6; 3. H. Waidelich, 14-7 1/2; 5. K. Yoder, 13-7 3/4.

Pole vault: 1. S. Yoder, 10-0 meet, school records; 2. Laura Rochefort, 8-0.

In the boys meet, Lincoln Frey defended his pole vault title and also won the 800. Ben Holland won the high jump.
