PHS Girls Return Six Letterwinners

Six letterwinners return for Jason Waldvogel, Pettisville head girls basketball coach, as the 2017-18 season gets underway.

The Birds finished with an 18-6 record last year, 11-1 in the Buckeye Border Conference. They shared the conference title with Stryker.

Returning are seniors Nichole Foor (6 points per game, 6.75 rebounds per game), Sami Tilley (3.38 ppg), and Kendal Pursel, along with juniors Morgan Leppelmeier (13.4 ppg, 5.38 rpg), Elizabeth Beck (3.5 ppg), and Brandi Schnitkey (4.04 ppg).

Lost to graduation were Alexa Leppelmeier (10.75 ppg), Lynnsey Crouch (2.21 ppg), and Tessa Waidelich.

Waldvogel said his team’s strengths are the players’ attitudes and willingness to work.

“We should be able to shoot the basketball fairly well, along with having decent speed and size, while being aggressive on defense,” he said.

The team’s weakness will be that individuals “will be finding new roles than they have played in the past,” he said.

Waldvogel thinks the BBC will be balanced, “with Stryker bringing back a good nucleus of players. As in every year, we want to try to contend for a top spot,” he said.

Charles Nafziger is the junior varsity coach.
