PHS Girls Drop Two Straight




The Pettisville girls basketball team dropped a game behind Stryker in the battle for the Buckeye Border Championship after the Panthers defeated the Birds 46-36, Friday, Jan. 18, in the Bird Cage.

PHS (10-5) was also defeated by Swanton 61-45 in non-league action, Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Swanton.

The Bulldogs turned an 18-10 first-quarter lead into a 32-18 advantage at the half before a relatively even second half gave Swanton (6-6) the 61-45 victory.

The difference came at the foul line and beyond the arc.

Pettisville outscored the Bulldogs 28-16 on field goals, but Swanton hit 11 of 17 three-pointers (65%) and was 12-18 at the foul line.

The Birds hit only five treys and was 2-4 at the foul line.

Morgan Leppelmeier led all scorers, with 22 points.

Aricka Lutz led Swanton, with 20 points. Averie Lutz added 13 and Frankie Nelson had 10.

Stryker 46, PHS 36

Stryker improved to 14- 2, 7-1 BBC while the Birds dropped to 7-2 BBC in a game that stayed within reach for Pettisville until the fourth quarter.

Stryker led 10-4 after one, but PHS closed the difference to 18-15 at the half and 32-29 after three.

The Panthers outscored PHS 14-7 in the fourth for the 10-point margin of victory.

Once again, the difference was beyond the arc and at the foul line.

PHS outscored the Panthers 22-8 from the field, but Stryker hit seven threes to two for the Birds and was 17- 21 at the foul line compared to 8-15 for PHS.

Brandi Schnitkey led PHS with 12 points. Leppelmeier added 11.

Courtney Stewart led Stryker with 14 points. Brittany Haines added 12.
