PHS Girls Drop Season Opener To Indians 60-55

The Pettisville girls basketball team opened its season with a trip to Wauseon to take on the Indians, Friday, Nov. 16.

The Blackbirds led 44-41 after three quarters, but were outscored 19-11 in the fourth and lost 60-55.

“We had a lapse in the fourth quarter that we just didn’t recover from,” said Jason Waldvogel, PHS head coach. “We will take this and build from it.”

The first quarter ended with the score tied at 15. Pettisville outscored Wauseon 16-14 in the second period to take a 31- 29 lead into the locker room.

Pettisville maintained its lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Indians 13-12 for a three-point lead.

The Birds were 20/58 from the field for 34% and 12/22 from the foul line for 55%. Erica King led PHS with 13 points. Jodi Spotts chipped in 10.

The Indians were 19/51 from the field for 37% and 15/27 from the line for 55%. Taylor Creager led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Brittany Gibson with 16.

“I was very happy with our effort tonight, especially for the season opener,” said Waldvogel. “Wauseon and coach Myers deserve credit for their intensity tonight.”
