The Pettisville girls cross country team advanced to the Division III regional meet by placing fourth at the district meet, Saturday, Oct. 23.
Dominic Frey, a junior, was the only boys runner to advance. He placed 15th individually.
The top four teams and individuals who finished in the top 16 advanced to the regional meet in Tiffin.
Liberty Center claimed the District I championship with 56 points, followed by Bluffton, 96, and Kalida, 126. Pettisville scored 145 to claim the last regional qualifying spot.
Tanner Hostetler led the Birds. She claimed 12th place in 20:39.80. Brady Avina was the second PHS runner to cross the line; she was 26th in 21:33.10.
Samantha Shinhearl was 30th in 21:54.10. Lexie King grabbed 33rd in 21:59.
The final scoring runner for Pettisville was Amber Loar, who finished 53rd in 23:49.8.
Taylor D’Alelio was 54th in 24:10.10, and Lauren Hostetler was 55th in 24:12.7.
In the boys race, the Blackbirds finished sixth with 152 points out of 14 teams in the District 2 race.
Two Buckeye Border Conference teams advanced to the regional. Hilltop won with 44 points, while Fayette finished fourth with 122. Coldwater was second with 58, and Columbus Grove took third with 77.
Frey was the only freshman to qualify for the regional as an individual. He placed 15th in 17:26.2. All but one of the runners ahead of him were juniors or seniors.
Tanner Rufenacht was 21st in 18:01.7. Daniel Sauder was 29th in 18:18.4.
Pettisville’s next two runners came in almost together, with Aaron Bruner just beating Chris Waidelich to the line. Bruner was 43rd in 18:55.1, and Waidelich was 44th in 18:57.3.
Josh Borton was 50th in 19:14.9, and Justin Pursel was 60th in 19:33.
The D-III regional meet is Saturday, Oct. 30, at Hedges Boyer Park in Tiffin. The boys race is at 11:05 a.m.; the girls race is at 1:20 p.m.
