PHS Girls Beat Locos, Fall To Delta Panthers

The Pettisville girls basketball team is 2-1 after a win over Montpelier and a loss to Delta last week.

The Birds opened the week with a 57-51 loss at Delta, Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Montpelier visited the Bird Cage, Thursday, Nov. 29, for a Buckeye Border Conference game. The Birds improved to 2-0 BBC with a 52-38 victory.

Delta 57, PHS 51

The Birds hit eight threepointers, but Delta hit 10 as the Panthers improved to 2- 0 with a six-point non-league win.

“We didn’t find shooters early in the game, and (Delta) knocked the shots down,” said Jason Waldvogel, PHS head coach.

“Our girls continued to battle and had us right there at the end of the game.”

The Panthers jumped out to a 24-13 lead after one, 33- 20 at the half, and 47-32 after three.

Pettisville outscored Delta 19-10 in the fourth, but came up six points short.

Morgan Leppelmeier led a trio of Birds in double figures, with 19 points. Mikayla Graber scored 11 and Brandi Schnitkey, 10.

Braelyn Wymer led the Panthers, with 17 points. Brooklyn Green scored 13 and Abby Freeman, 11.

The Birds were 3-6 at the foul line while Delta was 7- 11. PHS won the rebounding battle, 37-25, but committed 16 turnovers to six for Delta.

PHS 52, Montpelier 38

Pettisville led 20-15 after one on its way to a 52-38 BBC win, Thursday, Nov. 29.

“It was a good win tonight,” said Waldvogel. “I thought we got good contributions from everyone on the team.”

Eight Birds got in the scorebook, led by Leppelmeier with 22 points. Schnitkey was also in double figures, with 12 points– eight coming at the foul line.

Ariel Page led the Locos (0-3, 0-2 BBC), with 11.

PHS was 15-36 from the field and 16-19 at the foul line, while ‘Pelier was 16-42 from the field and 3-7 at the foul line.

Both teams grabbed 24 rebounds. The Locos had 16 turnovers to 14 for PHS.
