PHS Girls Beat Edon, Fall To Edgerton

Pettisville used a 17-7 second quarter to defeat Edon 43-28, Friday, Dec. 14, in a Buckeye Border Conference girls basketball game at Edon.

In the Birds’ non-league game at Edgerton, Saturday, Dec. 15, the second quarter was again the difference. The Bulldogs outscored PHS 8-5 while every other quarter was tied, and Edgerton won 40-37.

Pettisville is 4-3, 2-1 BBC.

“It was a nice win for us tonight,” said Jason Waldvogel, PHS head coach.

“I thought we played well defensively. Audra Klopfenstein and Jordyn Pursel did a nice job limiting Sydney Stoll from getting good looks at the basket.”

The Birds led 9-5 after one, and the big 17-7 second quarter gave PHS a 26-12 advantage at the half.

Both teams scored nine points in the third, and PHS won the fourth 8-7 for the 43-28 final.

Pettisville’s Dana Fricke led all scorers with 13 points.

Andrea Headley led Edon (3-4, 0-3 BBC) with eight.

PHS was 17-48 from the field for 35% and 7-13 at the foul line for 54%. Edon was 11-42 from the field for 26% and 4-12 at the foul line for 33%.

The Birds out-rebounded the Bombers 31-23, and committed seven turnovers to Edon’s six.

Edgerton 40, PHS 37

Both teams scored 11 points in the first and fourth quarters, and 10 in the third. The extra three points the Bulldogs scored in the second gave them the threepoint victory.

“It was a good battle tonight,” said Waldvogel. “I thought we had opportunities, and things just didn’t fall for us.”

Edgerton’s Hannah Griffi n led all scorers with 14 points.

Pettisville had two in double figures. Fricke scored 13 points, while Lauren Hostetler scored 11.

The Birds were 14-44 from the field for 32% and 8-15 at the foul line for 53%. Edgerton (5-2) was 16-38 from the field for 42% and 7-11 at the foul line for 64%.

The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 27-21, but committed four more turnovers, 13, to Pettisville’s nine.
