PHS Falls To Delta, Defeats Fayette

In a seesaw match that lasted past 10 p.m., Delta defeated Pettisville 17-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 15-10, Monday, Sept. 10.

The Birds came back Thursday, Sept. 13, and beat Fayette in a Buckeye Border Conference match 25-17, 25- 23, 25-13.

Pettisville is 5-5, 2-0 in the BBC.

Delta Def. Pettisville 17-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 15-10

Emily Hubby led PHS with 13 kills, served five of the team’s 12 aces, and was 45-46 in setting with 14 assists.

Ashlynn Waidelich and Dana Fricke each had 10 kills. Emily Eicher served three aces, while Waidelich and Devon Friend each served two. Claire Fry was 44-46 in setting with 16 assists.

As a team, Pettisville was 91-102 in serving, 97-100 in setting, and 122-151 in attacks.

Pettisville won the junior varsity match 25-23, 21-25, 25-14, and the freshman match, 25-13, 11-25, 25-16.

Pettisville Def. Fayette 25-17, 25-23, 25-13

Pettisville led 18-13 in the first game, but Fayette came to within four, 21-17, before the Birds closed it out 25-17.

Pettisville’s largest lead in the second game was four, 18-14 and 21-17. The Eagles came back to tie the score at 22 and John Horning, PHS head coach, called a time-out to settle his girls.

Coming out of the timeout, Pettisville sent Allison Cuff’s serve to the net, where Fayette had an error, giving PHS a 23-22 lead.

Mikayla Smith’s spike went long for the Eagles, and Pettisville led 24-22.

Waidelich’s spike went long for PHS, and the Eagles closed to within one again, 24-23.

On the second game point, Paige Keefer served long for Fayette, and the Birds won 25-23.

Game three was all Pettisville, as the Birds sprinted out to a 19-7 lead on their way to a 25-13 victory. PHS finished the match with a kill from E. Hubby, who had 16 for the night.

Waidelich had 11 kills; Eicher had six; and Fricke had five.

Fry was 33-35 in sets with 16 assists. E. Hubby was 37- 37.

The PHS JV team raised its record to 7-3 with a 25- 20, 25-15 victory. The PHS freshmen also won, 25-21, 25-16.

Freshman Quad Meet

The Pettisville freshmen played in a quad meet with Hilltop, Wauseon, and Liberty Center at LC, Saturday, Sept. 15.

The Birds beat the Cadets 25-9, 25-11.

The Indians beat Pettisville 25-16, 25-15.

The Blackbirds raised their record to 6-1 with a 25- 10, 25-5 win over the Tigers.
