PHS Cross Country Teams Ready To Run

Pettisville cross country returns seven letterwinners on the boys’ side and five on the girls’ for Tom Wagner, head coach.

Wagner said it will be hard to replace Alex Frey, last year’s team captain and most valuable player in the Buckeye Border Conference. But the boys team’s strong leadership and experience at the state level is a strength, as are good numbers.

Wagner said his girls are a hard-working group that is competitive.

Austin Borton, a senior All- Ohio selection, returns. He was First Team All-BBC and placed 10th at state.

Also returning are Harris King, a senior; Lincoln Frey (First Team All-BBC), Jacob Nofziger, Brandon Hamilton, and Trevor Lantz, juniors; and Preston Lantz, a sophomore.

“Last year the BBC had four teams in the top nine at regional, and two teams in the top 10 at state,” said Wagner. “I look for another hard-fought year in the BBC and beyond.”

Two upperclassmen return on the girls’ side: Alexis Short, a senior, and Rachel Beck, a junior and First Team All-BBC selection.

Kayla King, Taylore Lantz, and Jackie Morrill, sophomores, round out the returnees.

“We should be pretty competitive in the BBC,” said Wagner. “North Central and Fayette are the teams to beat.”

Both teams open their seasons Tuesday, Aug. 26 with a tri-meet against Evergreen and Archbold at Evergreen.
