PHS Boys Drop Sixth Straight

The Pettisville boys basketball team lost a pair of contests over the weekend to fall to 5-10, 3-3 in the Buckeye Border Conference.

The Birds hosted North Central for a BBC matchup, Friday, Jan. 25. The Eagles outscored PHS 20-9 in the fourth period to go home with a 56-48 victory.

PHS was on the road to Liberty Center, Saturday, Jan. 26. The Birds held a 34- 22 advantage at the half, but the Tigers outscored PHS 39- 24 in the second half to hand the Birds their sixth straight loss, 61-55.

NC 56, PHS 48

Pettisville led 19-11 after one and 29-26 going into the locker room. The Birds still held a three-point advantage after three, 39-36, but the strong 20-9 fourth quarter by the Eagles overtook PHS 56-48.

A trio of Birds was in double figures. Kurt Siegel led PHS with 12 points, while Austrin Dykstra scored 11 and David Reyes had 10.

NC’s Jalen Dancer led all scorers with 22 points. Brendon Geiser scored 13.

Pettisville was 21-43 from the field for 49% and 5-10 at the foul line for 50%. The Eagles (6-9, 3-3 BBC) were 20-33 from the field for 61% and 13- 24 at the foul line for 54%.

The Birds won the rebounding battle 26-21, and committed only eight turnovers to NC’s 10.

LC 61, PHS 55

Pettisville scored 17 points in each of the first two quarters, while the Tigers scored 11 in each of the first two for a 34-22 PHS advantage.

LC outscored PHS 15-9 in the third to close the gap to 43-37, and a 24-15 fourth quarter gave the Tigers (5-10) the 61-55 non-league victory.

Reyes led PHS with 18 points. Siegel scored 13 and Tanner Rufenacht had 12.

LC’s Kaleb Pohlman led all scorers with 23. Tyler Davis was also in double figures, with 13.

Pettisville was 14-29 from the field for 48% and 24-27 at the foul line for 89%. Liberty Center was 22-44 from the field, including six threepointers, for 50% and 11-18 at the foul line for 61%.

The Birds grabbed 24 rebounds to the Tigers’ 21, but committed 23 turnovers to the Tigers’ 15.
