Playing in the Division IV district tournament for the first time since 2010, the Birds advanced one step farther than three years ago with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-22 semifinal victory over Ayersville, Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Defiance High School.

It was the second time the two teams played this season, and the second time Pettisville won.

“We knew what they had, we knew their record (20- 3) coming in, and we didn’t take them lightly,” said John Horning, PHS head coach.

“I wouldn’t say we played our best tonight, but I thought we kept our heads tonight with the scores tight.

“I thought defensively we were pretty good. I thought we served well, (and) we had some good swings at the net.”
