PHS Baseball Wins First Game Of Year

The Pettisville baseball team dropped two nonleague contests last week before winning their first game of the season to stand 1-6 on the season.

Holgate 8, PHS 5

Tied at 3 after one inning, Holgate (1-6) went on to defeat Pettisville 8-5, Monday, April 8, at Pettisville.

Logan Rufenacht suffered the loss on the mound. In seven innings he allowed eight runs on 11 hits, struck out nine, and walked one.

The Birds had four hits. Devin Beltz had a double with two runs batted in, while Josh Norr, Josh Horning, and Rufenacht each had a base hit.

Swanton 11, PHS 1

The Bulldogs (8-1) defeated PHS 11-1, Tuesday, April 9, at Swanton.

The Birds scored their only run in the fourth inning.

Horning was the losing pitcher. In one inning he allowed three runs on three hits, struck out one, and walked one.

Pettisville had no hits in the game.

PHS 18, MVCD 8

The Birds won their first game of the season with an 18-8 victory over Maumee Valley Country Day, Friday, April 12, at Pettisville.

The Birds scored nine runs in the sixth inning for the mercy rule win.

Rufenacht was the winning pitcher. In three innings he allowed two runs on four hits, struck out five, and walked one.

PHS had nine hits. Beltz was 3-3 with a double and four RBIs. Horning was 1-2 with an RBI; Rufenacht, 1-2; Nate Keim, triple, two RBIs; Jake King, 1-2, two RBIs; Norr, 1-2, two RBIs; Gideon Myers, 1-5, one RBI.
