PHS Baseball Beats Fayette, Falls Twice

The Pettisville baseball team defeated Fayette but lost twice to Hilltop in Buckeye Border Conference action last week.

The Birds are 3-13, 1-10 BBC.

PHS 19, Fayette 4

The Eagles (0-14, 0-10 BBC) committed 11 errors as the Birds collected eight hits in their 19-4 victory, Monday, May 6, at Fayette.

Logan Rufenacht got the win. In four innings he allowed three runs on three hits, struck out two, and walked two.

At the plate, Devin Beltz got a triple, single, and six runs batted in. Rufenacht had a pair of singles, while Tommy McWatters had a single with two RBIs. Sam Wilburn, Baden Skates, and Brayden Barrett each had a single.

Hilltop 11, PHS 3

The Birds scored three runs in the third, but the Cadets came out on top 11- 3, Tuesday, May 7, at Pettisville.

McWatters was the losing pitcher. In four innings he allowed eight runs on five hits, struck out two, and walked one as the Birds committed seven errors.

Josh Horning, Beltz, and Wilburn each had a single for PHS.

Hilltop 10, PHS 0

The Cadets (15-6, 9-3 BBC) shut out Pettisville 10-0 in six innings, Friday, May 10, at West Unity.

Horning was the losing pitcher. In 4 1/3 innings he allowed six runs on three hits, struck out one, and walked five.

McWatters and Jake King each had a base hit for PHS.

Sectional

Pettisville was scheduled to play Stryker (10-9) yesterday, Tuesday, in a Division IV sectional semifinal at Stryker.

The winner plays topseeded Antwerp (14-5) for the sectional championship, Thursday, May 16, 5 pm, at Antwerp.
