Pettisville Volleyball Wins Four Of Five

The Pettisville volleyball team was busy last week, playing five matches and winning four.

The Birds opened the week with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-12 victory over Rossford, Monday, Sept. 15.

They traveled to Fayette, Tuesday, Sept. 16, and came home with a 25-8, 25-22, 25- 22 Buckeye Border Conference win.

North Central visited the Bird Cage, Thursday, Sept. 18. Pettisville upped its BBC record to 4-0 with a 25-11, 25-13, 25-13 victory.

PHS went on the road to Liberty Center, Saturday, Sept. 20 for a tri-meet with the Tigers and Edgerton.

Liberty Center upped its record to 8-3 with a 25-9, 25-19 defeat of the Blackbirds. PHS came back in its second match, however, and defeated the Bulldogs 25-23, 25-20 to up its record to 8-4.

“The girls have improved game by game,” said John Horning, PHS coach, after the North Central victory. “The wins we have haven’t always been as solid as we would’ve liked, but we finished some teams off that we needed to.

“The games we’ve lost were against, I feel, some pretty good competition. Columbus Grove is good (ranked eighth in the state in Division III), Delta, I think, is a nice squad, Wauseon’s a good squad. In all three, we battled as much as we could, and scores were tight.

“For them to reach the goals they have, there needs to be a little more consistency, and quicker adjustments on the court on certain plays.

“As far as work ethic, the girls have been outstanding. They’ve worked hard since day one.

“From an experience standpoint the girls have really superseded my expectations as far as knowing what to do. It’s just a matter of doing it more consistently.”
