The Pettisville Local School Board recognized outstanding students and teachers as part of a special school board meeting, Monday, Jan. 26.
Alyssa Beck and James Baatz, PHS seniors, earned national honors in academic achievement through the National Merit Scholarship program.
The two were recognized for scores on the National Merit qualifying test. Their scores were in the top 3% of the 1.5- million high school students who took the test.
Michael Lane, Pettisville high school principal, presented Beck and Baatz with certifi- cates.
Lane told school board members both students were "excellent students with 4.0 gradepoint averages in their senior year."
Lane also recognized three science faculty members for earning the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Youth Science Opportunities: John Poulson, Donna Meller, and Paul Bishop.
Lane said Pettisville ranked 20th in the state in the number of students who advanced to the state science fair over the past decade. He said all the schools that ranked higher than Pettisville were large school districts.
In at least one year, Pettisville was number one in the state in the percentage of students who advanced to the state fair.
