Pettisville Softball Returns Twelve

Kendra Stahl, Pettisville head softball coach and an Archbold graduate, welcomes back 12 letterwinners from last year’s squad that finished 13-8, 7-3 in the Buckeye Border Conference.

The Birds’ tournament run ended in the district semifinal.

“Experience and leadership are our strengths this season,” said Stahl.

“The players this year are a solid group of girls who know what to expect out of themselves and from each other.

“With six seniors on the team, we have great experience and leadership. We lost only one starter from last year–our only senior, Kayla King. This is a team that will get along well with each other and have fun.”

Back are seniors Ashlyn Bontrager, first base, First Team All-BBC, three-year letterwinner, .391 batting average; Kate Nofziger, outfi eld, Second Team All-BBC, two-year letterwinner, .279 BA;

Lauren Frey, catcher, Second Team All-BBC, threeyear letterwinner .352 BA; Lexie King, third base, Second Team All-BBC, threeyear letterwinner, .349 BA;

Taylor Kruse, outfield, three-year letterwinner; Adi Bruner, third base, threeyear letterwinner.

Returning juniors are Delaney

Nofziger, pitcher, First Team All-BBC, Honorable Mention All-District, twoyear letterwinner, 384 BA, 2.86 earned run average;

Mackenzie Riegsecker, second base, Honorable Mention All-BBC, two-year letterwinner, .226 BA; Katie Nofziger, outfield, two-year letterwinner.

Sophomores back are Audra Klopfenstein, utility, Honorable Mention All-BBC, one-year letterwinner, .356 BA; Emily Hubby, outfield, one-year letterwinner, .278 BA; Taylor D’Alelio, utility, one-year letterwinner.

Even with 12 returnees, Stahl said two weaknesses are in the depth of her pitching and the fact that the Birds have a very small incoming freshman class.

“We had a great season last year, and I’m expecting the same for us this year,” said Stahl.

“The girls understand that they will have to work hard and earn everything that they get.

“These seniors will lead this team as far as they want to go. They all continue to want to learn, grow and get better.”

Assisting with coaching duties is Ashley Stuckey.

The Birds are scheduled to open their season, Tuesday, March 27, at Wauseon.
