Pettisville School Board Corrects Ballot Wording

The Pettisville School Board held an emergency board meeting on Aug. 22 to pass a new resolution to put the school district income tax on the November ballot.

The meeting was necessary because state officials notified the local board of elections that the measure previously passed by the board was missing the words “for current expenses”.

The ballot language had been submitted to the state over one month previously, but the state notified local officials about the required language just two days before the deadline to get the levy on the fall ballot.

According to Jon Whitmore, an assistant in the Fulton County Prosecutor office, the language requirement was a minor technicality, since the previous motion passed by the school board stated the levy was for necessary requirements of the district.

The levy is a replacement for the temporary tax levy passed by district voters in 2003. The new levy would not increase the income tax, but if passed, will make it permanent.

Rescinding the former motion, and passing the corrected version was the only action taken at the emergency meeting. The board will meet for their regular meeting on Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. in the school library. – D. J. Neuenschwander
