Pettisville Girls Remain In BBC Title Chase

The Pettisville girls basketball team remains in the chase for the Buckeye Border Conference title after defeating North Central last week.

Stryker leads the BBC with a 10-1 record and Pettisville is 9-2 with one league game left.

The Panthers play Montpelier (6-13, 4-7 BBC) tomorrow, Thursday, while the Birds play Fayette (4-13, 3-7 BBC).

PHS defeated North Central 45-30 in BBC action, Thursday, Feb. 7, and Hicksville 44-22 in non-league action, Tuesday, Feb. 5.

PHS 44, Hicksville 22

The Birds sprinted out to a 12-5 first-quarter lead and never looked back in the Bird Cage as the Aces scored in single digits in every quarter.

PHS was on top 23-11 at the half and 36-18 after three.

Morgan Leppelmeier led all scorers, with 14 points. Brandi Schnitkey added 13 for Pettisville.

Katelyn Bergman and Kennedy Villena led Hicksville (9-9), with seven each.

The Birds won the rebounding battle 16-14, and committed 12 turnovers to Hicksville’s 22.

PHS 45, NC 30

The second quarter was the difference in this BBC contest at North Central.

Leading 7-5 after one, Pettisville outscored the Eagles 20-10 in the second for a 27- 15 halftime advantage.

Pettisville (13-6) won the second half 18-15 for the 45- 30 BBC win.

Leppelmeier led all scorers, with 22 points, while Schnitkey added 11.

Madison Brown led the Eagles (6-13, 4-8 BBC), with 14 points. Sidney McKarnes scored 10.

The Birds grabbed 24 rebounds to 17 for NC. The Eagles committed 15 turnovers to nine for PHS.
