Pettisville Girls Finish Second In BBC

Pettisville defeated Fayette 52-37, Thursday, Feb. 14, at Fayette, to finish second to Stryker in the race for the 2018-19 Buckeye Border Conference crown.

The Panthers (20-2) won the BBC outright with an 11-1 record.

The Birds hosted Liberty Center for a non-league contest, Saturday afternoon, Feb. 16. It was Senior Night for PHS, and the three seniors won their final game in the Bird Cage, 49-40.

PHS 52, Fayette 37

The difference was in the shots beyond the arc, as Pettisville was 7-16 while the Eagles were 2-17.

The Birds led 13-8 after one, 25-19 at the half, and 39-30 after three.

PHS won the rebounding battle 32-22.

Mikayla Graber led PHS, with 16 points. Morgan Leppelmeier scored 13 and Brandi Schnitkey had 12.

Addison Bentley and Trista Fruchey each scored 11 for Fayette (4-15, 3-9 BBC).

PHS 49, LC 40

The Tigers (7-15) had 12 more points from the field, but Pettisville was 25-37 at the foul line while LC was 4-12.

The three PHS seniors– Leppelmeier, Elizabeth Beck, and Schnitkey– scored 40 of the Birds’ 49 points, with Leppelmeier leading all scorers with 22.

Cassidy Chapa led the Tigers, with 13.

Sectional

Second-seeded Pettisville (15-6) plays last night’s sectional semifinal winner between Maumee Valley Country Day and Fayette for a Division IV sectional title, Saturday, Feb. 23, 1 pm, at Wauseon.

The winner plays in a district semifinal, Thursday, Feb. 28, 8 pm, at Archbold.
