Tom Wagner has spent the last 32 seasons at the helm of the Pettisville cross country teams. He looks for his boys squad to not only defend, but win, another Buckeye Border Conference championship.
“We should be in the hunt for another BBC crown. Stryker and Fayette will be tough to beat,” he said.
Nine boys return, including Dominic Frey, Jeremy Mann Austin Dykstra, and Daniel Sauder, seniors; Jacob Hauter, a junior; Kyle Lantz, Nathan Siller, Evan Rufenacht and Clay Waidelich, sophomores.
Frey and Mann were both First Team All-BBC selections.
Lost to graduation were Tanner Rufenacht and Tim Iott.
“We have very solid senior leadership and a very talented, hardworking group,” said Wagner.
“We need to stay injuryfree and be hungry to win.
“We should be competitive among similar-sizes schools, and hope to be peaking at tournament time.”
“We are still quite young on the girls side, but are gaining experience,” said Wagner.
“We look to improve meet by meet by working hard and focusing on our goals.”
The girls team lost six to graduation, but return six letterwinners. Taylor D’Alelio is the only returning senior. Also back are Grace Friend and Josephine Bloomer, juniors; Becky Tilley, Jaelyn Rufenacht and Hannah Herring, sophomores.
Lost to graduation were Samantha Shinhearl, First Team All-BBC; Amber Loar; Emily Eicher; Carley Hoffmire; Amber Dykstra; and Delaney Nofziger.
As far as the league outlook, “Fayette continues to be the team to beat,” Wagner said. “Stryker will be tough as well.”
