The Pettisville cross country teams traveled 3 1/2 hours each way to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Pre-Season Invitational, Saturday, Aug. 17, at the National Trail Raceway in Hebron.
It is also the site of the state cross country meet.
The boys team finished sixth in the Division III Race 1, while the girls placed 11th in D-III Race 5.
“I thought we did well for the first race of the year. It was a long day,” said Tom Wagner, PHS head coach.
Maplewood dominated with a team score of 52 points, placing three runners in the top 10. New Bremen was second with 110, and Minster was third with 112.
Pettisville finished with a team score of 190.
Dominic Frey was the first Blackbird into the chute, placing 12th in 17 minutes, 25.78 seconds.
Kyle Lantz was next, placing 23rd in 18:05.49. Jacob Hauter was 29th in 18:27.58, and Nathan Siller was 69th in 19:37.16.
Austin Dykstra was the fi- nal scoring runner, finishing 79th in 19:57.44.

Minster’s Dominic Slonkosky won in 16:39.42.
Minster won the girls race with 27 points. All five scoring runners finished in the top 10.
Fort Frye was second with 84, and Caldwell took third with 124.
Pettisville finished with 247.
Alexa Leppelmeier was the first Bird to finish. She placed 10th in 21:24.57.
Elizabeth Miller was 47th in 24:25.55, Krystine Davis was 78th in 26:33.31, and Taylor D’Alelio was 80th in 26:56.53.
Becky Tilley was the final scoring runner for PHS. She placed 87th in 27:45.95.
