The Birds used the inside game of Sam Rychener and Graeme Jacoby to open the game with Montpelier (2-9, 1- 6 BBC). The duo scored all of Pettisville’s 10 first-quarter points and led 10-9 after one.

Rychener scored eight more points in the second as the Birds outscored the Locos 14-8 for a 24-17 lead at the half.

“I thought that Sam and Graeme established their presence inside early on and finished really well around the basket,” said Brian Leppelmeier, PHS head coach.

Pettisville widened the lead to double digits in the third and led 41-30 entering the fourth.

“We had a few unforced turnovers in a few stretches that we can’t have,” said Leppelmeier. “Montpelier… played extremely hard.

“Overall it’s a good league win for us and a step in the right direction.”

Rychener led all scorers with 21 points.

Jacoby recorded another double-double, with 15 points and 11 of Pettisville’s 30 rebounds.

Thomas Jay led the Locos, with 16 points.
