The Pettisville School Board approved supplemental contracts for the spring musical and for coaching positions at its Monday, Feb. 11 meeting.
The board approved contracts for Duane Beck as the musical director and assistant director for music for the 2019 Spring musical, “Godspell.”
Dates for the show are Thursday-Sunday, March 14- 17.
The board approved contracts for Michael Short as the assistant director for drama, choreographer, and set director. Nathan Kester will be the pit orchestra director.
In sports contracts, Casey Underwood was approved as junior high track coach. The board noted Underwood had been a volunteer coach for several years.
Lexie King and Kayla Bruner will serve as co-head coaches for softball. Harris King will be a softball volunteer.
Under the 2019-20 school year calendar approved at the meeting, school will start Wednesday, Aug. 21. The date is one week later than the 2018-19 start.
The last day for students is Monday, June 3, 2020.
Students will have three days off at Thanksgiving, and Christmas break will be two full weeks, from Monday, Dec. 23 to Monday, Jan. 6.
Spring break will be the third full week of March, and coincides with spring breaks at both Archbold and Wauseon. Students will have no school on Good Friday, April 10.
In another calendar-related item, Steve Switzer, superintendent, said as of the Feb. 11 meeting, Pettisville has used nine calamity days.
Switzer said due to the change by the state from days required to hours required, Pettisville’s schedule called for 22 equivalent days beyond the minimum school year, so no make-up days are required at this time.
Jason Waldvogel, elementary principal, told the board the sophomore supper and Minibird Jamboree is tomorrow, Thursday, 5-7 pm.
Pettisville students in fourth through sixth grades will display their basketball skills beginning at 6 pm.
Mike Lane, high school principal, reported that the Spanish Club enchilada sale is underway and ends on Tuesday, March 5. The sale raises money for the biannual Spanish Club trip to a Spanish-speaking country.
Pettisville students will present projects at District Science Day at the University of Toledo, Saturday, March 2. Students who do well can advance to State Science Day at The Ohio State University.
Following the regular meeting, the board went into executive session to “prepare for, conduct, or review negotiation or bargaining sessions with public employees.”
No action was taken when the board returned to regular session.
All board members were present.
