Pauline Mary Short was born Dec. 2, 1921, to Mary (Valiton) Short and Samuel S. Short, and passed away Aug. 23, 2014, at the age of 92.

She married Kenneth Dale Short (son of Sylvanus “Sox” Short and Viola (Eicher) Short on March 23, 1943. He preceded her in death on May 11,1989.

Her parents and all her siblings preceded her in death: Earl John Short, Olen Dale Short, Ruth Luella Roth, Louise Blanche Beck, Paul Richard Short.

With her acceptance of Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord at an early age, she became a faithful member of Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church.

Soon after their marriage, Kenny was drafted into CPS service, and he served in Cleveland. His duties were at a greenhouse, where he did research.

Pauline worked in a nearby factory during this time in Cleveland.

Returning to Archbold in 1946, they purchased a building in the Lugbill Addition and opened “Short’s Dairy Bar.” Pauline worked alongside Kenny for 12 years, waitressing and cooking.

Pauline was in a book club, Needlepoint Club, Child Conservation League, and also did gardening. Homemaking and family were very important to her.

She also enjoyed spending time golfing. Upon retirement they went to Bradenton, Fla., in the winter months, where they made many new friends.

She is survived by a loving and caring daughter, Susan Kay (Steve) Wyse, and son, Michael Ken (Barb) Short; two grandsons, Matt (Molly) Wyse and Jason (February) Wyse; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler Wyse, Max Wyse, Kaylee Wyse, Torch Wyse; many nieces and nephews; and two special, caring ladies, Sara Nafziger and Donna Smith, whom she thought of as her adopted daughters.

Memorial services will be held tomorrow, Thursday, at 11 a.m., at the Archbold Evangelical Church with Pastor Jesse Kahler officiating. Interment will precede at 9:45 a.m., Thursday, in the Lockport Cemetery.

Friends may call in the church Fireside room from 4-8 p.m., today, Wednesday.

The family prefers that memorials be given to Archbold Evangelical Church, the Fairlawn Haven Special Care Unit, or the donor’s choice.
