William P. “Bill” Arthur
   William P. “Bill” Arthur, age 80 years, of Archbold, passed away Tuesday morning, March 11, 2008, at Harborside Healthcare of Northwest Ohio in Bryan.
   He was born Oct. 19, 1927, at Gomer, Ohio, a son of John and Elizabeth (Peate) Arthur.
He married Jocelyn Stoll on June 2, 1950, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 29, 1996.
   He graduated from Ohio Northern University at Ada in 1950 after lettering four years in football, baseball, and basketball, and received his masters from Indiana University at Bloomington, Ind. in 1960.
   A resident of the Archbold area over 50 years, he taught seventh grade Ohio History and Drivers Ed at Archbold Area Schools before retiring in 1966. He then was a salesman for LaChoy Food Products. He served in the U.S. Navy.
   He coached basketball at Delta School one year, and was head basketball coach at Archbold for 13 years, assistant football coach 10 years, and varsity baseball coach six years.
   He was inducted into the Ohio Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1959, the Ohio Northern University Hall of Fame in 1971, Archbold Athletic Boosters Hall of Fame in 2004, and the District 7 Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005.
   He was a member of the Archbold United Methodist Church.
   He is survived by two sons, Bruce (Wendy) Arthur of Windermere, Fla., and Jack (Veronica) Arthur of Bryan; one daughter, Sue Ann (Ed) Bateman of Nelsonville, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Allison Arthur (Dennis Robinson), Ashley Arthur, Jasper Bateman, Jarvis Bateman, Jordan Bateman, Colt Arthur, and Connor Arthur; two sisters, Betty Arthur of Gomer, and Mary (Tom) Syler of Alliance.
   Memorial services will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Archbold United Methodist Church with Rev. David David officiating. Interment will precede in the Archbold Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion B.L.W. Post 311.
   Friends may call at the Methodist Church from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday. Short Funeral Home in Archbold is in charge of the arrangements.
   The family suggests that memorials be given to the Archbold Athletic Boosters, American Red Cross, or the donor’s favorite charity.
