Update Saturday, June 25, 9:20 am: All eastbound and westbound lanes have reopened at mile post 32 west of Wauseon on the Ohio Turnpike.
Update, Friday, June 24, 9:40 pm: Westbound lanes of the Ohio Turnpike are reopened as of 8:30 pm, Friday, June 24.
Eastbound lanes remain closed while pavement repairs are conducted.
One person was killed in a crash on the Ohio Turnpike, Thursday, June 23, near mile post 32 in Fulton County, just west of the Wauseon exit.
The fatal traffic crash occurred at approximately 8:51 pm in a traffic backup that resulted from a three-commercial injury crash that had happened at mile post 33.8 at approximately 8:14 pm. The victims of the crash are not known yet.
The crash remains under investigation. What is known at this time is it involved 4 commercial vehicles and resulted in one of them catching fire. That fire has not been extinguished at the time of reporting.
The commercial that is on fire is a tanker truck hauling 3000 gallons of liquid hydrogen. The Wauseon and Archbold fire departments are working to extinguish the fire with the assistance of the trucking company.
The Ohio Turnpike remains closed in both directions. Turnpike Maintenance is diverting traffic at exits 34 (State Route 108) and 25 (State Route 66). Fulton County EMA is on scene and the EPA has been advised.
A press conference was going to be held at 4 pm, today, Friday, to provide updates related to the crash, along with numerous traffic crashes that occurred as a result of the traffic detour.-Updated 6.24, 4 pm
