NSCC, Former Instructor Reach Settlement Agreement

Northwest State Community College and Tom Javarinis, a former NSCC instructor, have reached a settlement agreement over Javarinis’ 2014 dismissal from the college.

Javarinis, a former business instructor, was accused of violating the college code of conduct. The NSCC Board of Trustees terminated his employment at a special meeting on Aug. 27, 2014.

The Northwest State Community College Education Association filed a grievance protesting Javarinis’ dismissal from NSCC.

The two sides in the case reached a settlement agreement earlier this month. The signing was confirmed by Javarinis and Mia Gutridge, a human resources consultant for NSCC.

This newspaper obtained a copy of the settlement agreement from Javarinis.

Under the terms of the agreement, the college denies any wrongdoing, while Javarinis and the NSCCEA agrees to withdraw their grievance.

NSCC officials will modify Javarinis’ personnel record to indicate he resigned from the college, and will provide a neutral reference.

Also, college officials have agreed to pay Javarinis $13,000.
