Norwood Haveman




Norwood “Woody” Haveman, age 94, formerly of Hopkins, Mich., left this life, Sunday, July 27, 2014, in Defiance, Ohio, and entered into eternity with his Lord.

He was born Sept. 26, 1919, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the son of Conrad and Mamie (Oast) Haveman.

Woody was a loving husband, father and grandfather. There was never a piece of “old, tired” furniture he could not “remake or remold” into something wonderful and beautiful.

He made this his career for many years and delighted many customers with his wonderful craftsmanship.

He celebrated the simple things in life such as his “holein one” while golfing in Florida.

He was also a veteran of the United States Army.

Woody is survived by Doris, his beloved wife of 18 years; his son Jerry (Sally) Haveman and his other children, Rose (David) Sebright, Boyd (Tammy) Slusser, Danny (Kaye) Slusser, Penny (Bill) Timmer, Paula Sanford, Larry (Leanna) DeGroff, Fred (Val) DeGroff, Darlene (Jim) Page, Debbi (Larry) Kisor; his 24 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren, which Woody enjoyed very much.

He is preceded in death by his wife Alma and his wife Lillian.

Woody’s life was celebrated on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, Hopkins, Mich., where prior to the service, friends met with the family as well, from 12-2 p.m. Trayton Lull officiated.

Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery, Hopkins Township.
