Norma Jean Brandt, 86, of Defiance, died peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born Aug. 30, 1931, in Ridgeville Corners to the late Herman and Helen (Hainke) Hesterman.

On Jan. 21, 1951, she married Carl Brandt at St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker, and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2016.

Norma worked at Yoder and Frey Auctioneers in Archbold for over 60 years and farmed right beside her husband. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed traveling with her husband.

But most of all, she loved her family and the Lord Jesus with all her heart!

Norma was a 1949 graduate of Ridgeville High School.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ridgeville Corners until marriage, and then joined St. John Lutheran, Stryker.

She was a former Sunday school teacher, senior choir member, president of the Ladies Aid Society, member of the LWML, and past youth leader.

She is survived by her children, Alan Brandt of Cleveland, and Lisa (Mark) Baker of Waldron, Mich.; grandchildren, Nathan (Mattea) Baker, Stephanie (Kyle) Johnson, Katherine (Scott) Solo, Anna Baker, Zaire Paschal, X’vere Paschal, Z’marea Paschal; great-grandchildren, Mason Jean Johnson, Rylan Baker, and Cade Johnson; brother, Victor (Norma) Hesterman of Los Altos Hills, Calif.; sister, Margery (Eugene) Reese of Angola, Ind.; and sister-in-law, Margaret Hesterman of Archbold.

She was also preceded in death by brothers Lee, Dale, and Lawrence Hesterman.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church, Stryker. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held at St. John Lutheran Church on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and Friday from 10-11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Children Ministries or to the family of Norma Jean Brandt for charities to be determined at a later date.
