Nofziger Wins Regional Long Jump Title; PHS Boys 4×800 Places Third

Haley Nofziger, a Pettisville High School junior, won a regional championship in the long jump at the Division III regional track and field championships, Wednesday, May 28 and Friday, May 30 at Ashland.

Her jump of 16 feet, 9 1/2 inches was one inch farther than second-place Taylor Beck of Arlington.

Nofziger placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, just out of the running for state.

The boys 4×800-meter relay team of Austin Borton, Lincoln Frey, Chris Matthews, and Alex Frey also advanced to state. They placed third.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the state meet, Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 at the Jesse Owens Memorial State at Ohio State University in Columbus.

Other PHS finishes in the fi- nals:

Brady Avina finished sixth in the 400.

In the boys 1600, A. Frey was fifth and Borton, sixth. A. Frey was eighth in the 3200.

3200: 1. Trusty (Mohawk), 9:57.28; 8. A. Frey (P), 10:27.85.

1600: 1. Butler (Liberty-Benton), 4:26.53; 5. A. Frey (P), 4:39.24; 6. Borton (P), 4:40.58.

Girls

4×800: 1. Ottoville, nine minutes, 42.80 seconds; 15. Pettisville (Rachel Beck, Chelsea Schmucker, Tessa Yoder, Avina), 10:51.86.

Pole vault: 1. Wasserman (Lakota), 10 feet, 4 inches; 8. Stephanie Yoder (P), 9-4.

Long jump: 1. Nofziger (P), 16-9 1/2.

300 hurdles: 1. Brown (Riverdale), 44.83 seconds; 5. Nofziger (P), 46.44.

400: 1. Nagel (Seneca East), 57.4; 6. Avina (P), 61.61.
